I wanted to share with you all my experience of splinting baby Nicole's ears. I bought the ear buddies / ear splint from the internet and received it last Thursday. I took one day to read through the instructions several times. I wanted to be very confident on the steps of splinting her ears. I splinted her ears on Saturday afternoon. It was after I degrease her ears and left it dry for 90 minutes. The first night went well, she looked cute with the hat that came with the package. So it went on to Sunday as usual. I was taking care of her by my own on weekends. I bath her and did not allow the ears or the super wide tapes to become wet. I only wiped her face with a wet cloth. Everything went well as always. Comes night, she was sleeping happily and dreaming.
My husband was watching TV up till 1.30AM, i guess. When he came in, Nicole woke up (she is easily awaken) even though my husband tip toed into the room. Nicole then start rubbing her ears (both of them) and started being really fussy and crying. My husband was telling me, take off the ear buddy/ splint. It must be very itchy or have became inflamed. I insisted her to keep wearing it and talked really loud to my husband (which I feel sorry now). I then tried to put her back to sleep but she just won't sleep. We had to take off the tapes and the splint with the help of excessive tape remover, which i also bought from the same website. We then noticed that the remover was alcohol (We should never use alcohol on a baby). We had no choice but to use the excessive remover as the tapes were really sticky. After we removed the tapes, there was this really sticky thing remained on her ears and head. We had to use lotions to slowly wipe them off little by little. It took us 2 hours to remove and clean that up. She was filled with tears and I really regretted buying the ear buddy / splint.
Anyway, I found another solution for fixing baby's pointy ears without hurting her or having surgery, or taping her ear down to her head. For your info, I even shaved her hair just for the splint to work. I'm really upset of this company selling this kind of things, I don't mind about the money, even though it is expensive and has no money back guarantee, you should not sell something which will hurt a baby.
I will post the solution in another post, with before and after pictures. Thank you for reading and feel free to drop a comment.
